The Eye of the Storm
Everything feels a bit weird at the moment. Since June I have been working at full throttle in the new job to deliver a solution evaluation document. This was developed with the rest of the project team but, being a bit of a control freak, I ended up taking the direct ownership of the overall document on for myself.
I applied a methodology of "it only had to be right once". Ie I asked every one to give me their first cut as soon as the documents outline was complete. I needed to know what the document was going to contain to be able to use it to make a strong recommendation. Through a process of group feedback and iterative improvements and refinements the document would slowly be updated towards it's final version.
This was generally successful however there were factors that working against it. The hardest to overcome was pride. No one really wanted to hand over material that they thought was not their best work. I just had to be persistent to the point where it was easier for them to just give me something.
Anyway after all was said and done the document has now been completed and handed over for review, to be further workshopped later this week. So since yesterday morning I have been at a bit of a loose end.
Quiet.
. . Still.
. . . Bored.
There is still a lot going on, with new organisational structures being announced around me, other projects establishing increased priorities, but for me for the last 24 hours it has been like I am a ghost. As much as I know I can procrastinate before I get fully stuck into something, having nothing to procrastinate from is even awful.
I expect that in the next day or so this will change and I'll be swept up into another project but until then it has been a good opportunity to update the blog.
